Nestled among a row of conservation shop houses along the busy Amoy Street is Ding Dong, a game changer to edgy dining by the Spa Esprit Group. The concept is fun, funky and flirty.
You step into an eclectic, slightly mismatched space of clashing colours, retro wall-papering with an Oriental theme, complete with nostalgic hits of yesteryear. There is a laid back vibe to the place which immediately induces you into a relaxed mood.
First off were cocktails crafted from a newly revamped menu. Fancy some Astroboy, Hawker or Monkey’s Run to be in high spirits? Drool Cook Club sampled the Pomelo 2.0 and the Ding Dong Daiquiri, which was served in a cup which one usually associates with drinks of a different sort.
The menu was divided into sections of cold plates, small plates, bigger plates and desserts. If you still cannot decide, there is a “Feed Me” sharing or tasting option of a selection of assorted favourite plates dished out by Ding Dong.
Kudos to the Chef, Jet Lo, for his delightful Asian inspired fusion creations. Each dish is meticulously prepared with sophisticated artistry and culinary excellence. The dishes are layered on with a medley of flavours that blend harmoniously in a symphony.
All the familiar ingredients that you would never have thought could be used together in one dish. Other interesting creations on the menu include ‘Nan Ru’ pork ribs with ginger & apricot, Crispy duck curry with cauliflower & passionfruit, Banana fighter with nata de coco chutney, will bring us back soon.
It was a truly pleasing experience to indulge in good food and cocktails in a setting that stirs your senses to dizzying heights. Ding Dong – ring that bell again and again and again!
