20 August 2016. Outside, a hot afternoon and inside La Galeria De Dietrich, a 130sqm gallery containing the brand’s latest appliances, it was brewing hot and spicy.
Welcome to the August edition of Drool’s themed Potluck Tea Party. Theme of the month? Hot & Spicy of course!
True to its theme, the party – a gathering of Drool and friends – witnessed an explosive burst of talents and flavours to fire up the taste buds and inflate your tummy (believe me, those extra calories are worth it!).
Sparking it off was a cooking demo by homechef Simmi, who whipped up the most delectable Tandoori Chicken using, not an oven, but the simple Air Fryer. Check her recipe here. What made this demo special was Simmi’s cook-or-die attitude; notwithstanding a road accident she met just the day before, she hobbled into the gallery – left hand in a cast, left leg in a brace – to make sure the show goes on and it did with the help of sous-chef Bhanu (alias Husband). Bravo!
The good showing continued with 20 culinary renditions of the hot and spicy theme by Drool’s homechef members and guests. There was a good balance of savoury and sweet – even a thirst quencher and a refreshing yuzu mint jelly to cool those fiery palates!
Votes for the top 5 favourite dishes comprise a 3-way tie for the top spot: Bad Birds (Andrea), Tandoori Chicken (Simmi) and Chilli Chocolate Cake (Carolyn); followed by a close second and third: Black Fungus Spicy Salad (Ng Jia Jia) and Short Rib Chilli Con Carne (Tay Jin Rong) respectively.
Also spicing up the eventful afternoon was a too-pretty-to-eat ombre blue chiffon, a special commission by Drool to celebrate Singapore’s historic win at Olympic Rio 2016. Full story here.
What else took place? We will simply let the video and pictures do the talking! Good food brings good people together and this is what Drool’s Potluck Tea Party does. Don’t miss our next event, watch this space for details.
